In the last lesson, we covered basic Cross-Body Parrying or “tapping.” Again this is a baseline type of tapping for new students to quickly and correctly start to track the blade.
In order to make both the Feeder and Receiver better, the next thing we teach is how to defeat the Cross-Body tap! We do this by showing the Feeder how to clear the cross-body tap. After the Feeder clears the cross-body tap, he maintains his intent and continues to the designated target in the template.
This is very important. Without the intent to hit a vital target, you are training empty repetitions!
After watching the video, your training assignment is to work your Feeder clears as follows:
- Individual targets -> tapping -> clearing -> continuing to target in isolation, one at a time
- Work each target sequence (target -> tap -> clear -> target) in order, 1,2,3, repeat
- Work each target sequence as above, but start outside reactionary gap (1.5 – 2 steps away)
